Blog No. UNO.
INTORDUCTION!
Name: Kerry. Call me kry. OMGKRY if you must.
Age: 17. SEVENTEEN. one seven.
WHY, OH WHY!!
This BLOG has been designed for the sole purpose of providing feedback, ideas, beliefs, or anything else of the sort relating to the Griffith University subject 'Communication and New Media'; which I am taking this semester. I am a first year - fresh out of High School University student studying a Bachelor of Journalism degree. However, depite my taste for writing, I am a n00b when in comes to blogging and in 'real life,' tend to rambel freqently - so please excuse me if I take you off onto many tangents! =)
SO FAR!!
So it all began two weeks ago. First week of Universtity - ever. Although - by the time Friday had come (which is the day of the New Comm. leture) I considered myself a pro. So pro that my friends and I arrived to the lecture slightly behind schedualed time! Nevertheless, we entered the lecture theatre and proceeded to join the other 200 students who were about to start their New Communication Technologies journey!
And there he was, PROFESSOR STEPHEN STOCKWELL! Right there; in the flesh. With his bubbly persona he introduced us into his world; a world which would soon become our world; the world of Communication and Technology.
Throughout the lecture we discussed the course and all the dealings that come with it. I immediately took a liking when I noted that we get to watch movies and mess around on Photoshop. I am yet to discover weather or not this subject has any similarities to that of the subject "business, COMMUNICATION and TECHNOLOGIES" in which I studied at high school. Throughout that time I learnt the very basics of the differnet types of communication and gained a thorough knowledge on the technicalities of Word processing. I have also completed workshops on Microsoft Excel and Database. I believe that without taking this subject at high school, my communcation skills would be very limited compared to what they are now.
Communication is an important attribute to a persons everyday living. Without it - where are you? With it ? - you can go, see, do anything! I have also found that frequent Communication enhances personal confidence and the ability to have your own voice. For example: the most popular networking tool these days; MySpace. (www.myspace.com). A place where you can casually chat; meet new people; find existing friends; blog your thoughts/feelings; get info on just about anything!; listen to music; search concerts/shows/performances..the list really does go on. For or against, and despite the criticism; everybody's doing it!
As for technology - well, within the few seconds it has taken me to write this very sentence; somewhere, someone around the world has invented/thought up something new; technology wise. For example: these days it's impossible to have a "top of the range" computer.
WHY? - Becasue technology changes! yearly; monthly; daily; hourly; within mintutes, seconds even! Technology is CONSTANTLY changing. And hopefully this subject will help us learn how it all works! How it changes, why it changes and what influences it to change it. After all; with such a fast paced society - it is important we are able to adapt to all of these changes!
CONTINUING ON
Speaking of Technology, this brings me to talk about the lecutre. During this time we then discussed the swap from Analog to Digital technology. The pros, the con's. the good, the bad. A sufficient example of how technology changes given time. This then gave light into discussing the genealogy of technology. The move from the telgraph to telephone, telephone to phonograph, phonograph to radio and then the more modern inventions of cinema to television.
Oh yes! it has begun...
